Terry Fox Run 2013 | Festival City | Dubai

i run for ktel bulias - melanoma cancer

My friend Ktel is stronger than her cancer

I was surprised having to woke just a bit sore. I was expecting I will get horrible pains on my whole body after the marathon but thankfully it wasn’t as bad. The warm-up dancing played a big role: Gangnam Style and Harlem Shake. Yes it did helped a lot. Yesterday, was one of the many firsts for me.

We participated in Terry Fox Run, an annual non-competitive charity event held in numerous regions across the globe in commemoration of cancer activist Terry Fox, and his Marathon of Hope, and to raise money for cancer research.

Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 mi), and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over C$500 million has been raised in his name.

I didn’t let this event pass. Glad to have some group of friends who are so physically active and with a good heart to participate in such a great cause. As you can read on Gulf News, more than 8,000 people participated in the Terry Fox Run that was held yesterday.

It was my first marathon and I haven’t done any preparation at all. I took the 4.2k which I had finish for 30 minutes. Not bad for a start eh! I feel this is the beginning for me to being physically active. Hopefully though since summer is just approaching, there’s no way I can survive running with this kind of weather.

One most important part for me joining on this event is to show my love and admiration to my late friend, Ktel. She is the bravest girl I have met. She was diagnosed with Melanoma cancer. Sadly, she did not make it. She passed away this month, 4th of April. She’s one of my biggest inspiration. Realizing that life is so precious to be taken for granted. Isn’t it so complicated when there are so many people who complained how miserable their life and wanting to end it without thinking that there are also people out there fighting to live.

Thanks Naz! She’s such a beautiful soul. It’s just so sad she left too early. Just the same age as mine. We grew up together. It’s still quite unacceptable but I’m sure she’s happy now without the suffering and pain anymore.

Oh she was so young :'(.. But now doesn’t have to suffer anymore. Everything happens for good, I believe. God bless her soul!

If people are going to take up running for the first time, there can be no better way than doing so for a worthy cause. May persons, families and friends who have gone through the suffering of cancer in one way or another find hope and comfort from this blog.
    I did.

Thank you. It’s the least I can do for her and for the rest of cancer victims out there.
