It was my first time to take a bus ride going to Abu Dhabi and, aside from waiting outside in the heat, I found it very convenient and affordable!
After a two-hour journey in total we arrived at the Park Rotana. By this time it was getting a bit late and we were hungry! The helpful receptionist gave us our pass and recommended Teatro for dinner. We dropped our stuff in the room and headed straight for the restaurant.
Two lovely ladies greeted us and escorted us to our table. It was quite dark inside but I can’t help to notice the elegant decor perfectly complimenting the open kitchen. I supposed the name Teatro comes from the inspiration of a Theatre setting which was evident from the stylish and mysterious masks hanging from the walls.
On the farthest side is the open kitchen where guests can watch live cooking which is very inviting. They also have a sushi bar where you can sit and drink and order your sushi on the spot. On our opposite was a very stylish wall filled with different kinds of wine!
When we were seated our server Toni, who was very helpful throughout the night, served us 2 glasses of delicious Australian red and a bowl of Edamame.
For starters we ordered the Ebi tempura Maki and the crispy wasabi prawns Tempura. Both portions are massive; we would actually have been happy with them as a main course! They were wonderfully presented with both dishes covered in a light crispy tempura and the sushi in particular having so many different taste combinations in one bite.
After the lovely appetizer we ordered the mixed seafood grill and the Thai green curry. The green curry had a wonderful creamy taste with very tender chicken, exactly as you would expect, served with perfectly cooked white rice. The highlight of the night for Ricky was definitely the Mixed seafood grill, which included sumptuous scallops seared in butter, tender lobster tail and crabs legs filled with the most beautiful meat. Although we were full by this point we couldn’t help but polish off everything on the plate, made even more tempting with the chef’s signature lemon butter!
At this point we were so full but Toni insisted to try their signature dessert; the Baked Hawaiian. Of course it didn’t fail us and was the highlight of my night. It comes with mango ice cream with slightly burnt soft meringue on top. Mixing the creaminess with the tangy passion fruit sauce on the side created a magical taste sensation. A very clever play on the traditional baked alaska (which we actually had in Cooper’s Bar the next night).
Ricky ordered the tiramisu which he can never turn down when it’s on the menu! By the time I went to try a bit it was finished which tells you everything!
In conclusion we had a wonderful time at Teatro. They offer a variety of high quality international cuisines including Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian and Italian; something for everyone. I strongly recommended Teatro for a romantic meal, a special occasion or anyone who is looking to splash out on a night of casual drinks and exquisite dining.
